Sensei Brenda Peters - 2nd Degree (Nidan)

Sensei Brenda Peters
2nd
 Dan - Okinawan Shorinryu Karatedo
Assistant Instructor

Sensei Brenda Peters is an instructor at both the Hampton and Suffolk dojos of Jeff Bateman’s School of Karate.  She joined the school in February of 2000 beginning her study of Okinawan Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu Karate.  Before joining Kyoshi Bateman, Brenda briefly studied Shorinji Seikukan Karate under Sensei Scott Dail.  In this style, she attained the rank of Gold belt, testing before Hanshi Terumasa Ogawa.  Shorinji Seikukan Karate is a style that was developed by Taisen Takemori in Japan shortly after World War II.  The style combines Chinese and Thai influences with Japanese martial arts.

Brenda is a very dedicated martial artist, devoting much of her time to the practice of Shorin-Ryu and to the school.  She has won many State Karate Championships, including gold medals in Kata, Team Kata, Kobudo and Kumite.  Brenda has persevered through many obstacles, including two knee surgeries and combating the effects of osteoarthritis.  She strives to serve as a model for students to pursue their goals and dreams, as well as inspire them to always do their best and never give up.

Brenda had the unique honor of testing for her 1st Degree Black Belt before a panel composed of Master Yamashita (9th Dan), Sensei Bud Shafer (8th Dan) and Kyoshi Jeff Bateman (7th Dan).  Master Yamashita promoted Brenda to Shodan on September 9th, 2005, making her the oldest student under Kyoshi Bateman to receive a Black Belt.

Brenda is married to Christopher, and has two sons, Benjamin and Alexander.  Outside of school, she is a “Domestic Engineer” and proud mother.  She enjoys gardening, but karate is her true love.

Sensei Susan Bateman
3rd Dan - Okinawan Shorinryu Karatedo

Sensei Susan Bateman received her 1st Degree Black Belt (Shodan) on July 30, 2000, from Master Tadashi Yamashita.  Susan was the first student to be promoted by Master Yamashita other than Kyoshi.  She has been assisting alongside her husband, Kyoshi Jeff Bateman, since that time.  Sensei Susan received her 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) on August 2, 2003, from Kyoshi Bateman.  On August 26, 2006, she received her 3rd Degree Black Belt (Sandan) from Master Yamashita.  She enjoys teaching at both the Hampton and Suffolk schools and helping in any way she can.  She currently serves on the Activities Committee overseeing everything from fundraising to activity planning.
